The Male Perineal Sling Enhances the Distal Sphincteric Mechanism: Fluorourodynamic Study

چکیده
Aims of Study The male perineal sling is a relatively new procedure for post prostatectomy incontinence that can be performed entirely through a perineal incision on an outpatient basis. Short-term results have been encouraging with 70% of patients becoming dry and another 10% showing improvement. (1) No urinary retention has been encountered. As with other sling procedures, the exact mechanism by which the male perineal sling restores continence is controversial. Clemens et al reviewed urodynamic results of their bulbourethral sling and concluded that, although Valsalva leak point pressures (VLPP) increased, resting urethral pressures did not change appreciably. (2) Functional urethral length was not included in their report. The objective of this study is to show the possible mechanisms behind the male perineal sling in achieving continence.

OBJECTIVES A first experience was carried out in three research centers using a new urethral sling for the treatment of male and female pediatric and young adult population with urinary incontinence caused by neurogenic sphincteric incompetence. METHODS This was a prospective pilot study of patients with neurogenic sphincteric incompetence needing clean intermittent catheterization. All patie...
متن کاملPelvic and perineal anatomy of the male gorilla: selected observations.
The anatomy of parts of the pelvic outlet and perineum is described in an adult male gorilla. Two previously undescribed muscles are presented: (1) The puborectalis muscle, completely separated from the levator ani, arises from the region of the symphysis and forms a sling for the rectum while it also substitutes for the perineal membrane. (2) The puboampullaris muscle, a paired smooth muscle, ...

OBJECTIVE To assess the technical feasibility of mini-invasive sling procedure and present preliminary results in the treatment of urinary incontinence due to sphincteric insufficiency. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirteen patients (6 males, 7 females, 8 with myelomeningocele, 1 with tethered spinal cord, 3 with bladder exstrophy, 1 with epispadias) underwent sling procedure with porcine dermis ace...

PURPOSE This study was undertaken to evaluate the use of pubovaginal sling for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence in patients with intrinsic sphincteric deficiency and patients with urethral hypermobility. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty-two patients aging 22 to 73 years-old (mean = 49.6) with a median parity of 4.1 (range 0 - 14) who underwent pubovaginal autologous fascial slin...
